A digital signature is an e-signature mechanism that is built based on Public Key Cryptography, whereby it facilitates a reliable mathematical scheme for verifying the authenticity and integrity of a signed document based on the digital certificate or digital ID of the signers.
A document that is signed with a qualified digital signature essentially means that the document was signed using a digital certificate or digital ID that was issued by a trusted entity/Certificate Authority (CA) which is recognised by local jurisdiction or law. Such signatures may achieve non-repudiation and in the event of a future dispute, the parties of the qualified digital signatures may be protected under local laws and regulations. In instances of dispute, the trusted entity/CA may be invited as forensic witnesses with evidence to prove that the identity of the signer is valid and was signed in accordance with the law.
An e-signature or electronic signature is a legal way to get consent or approval for electronic documents or forms. It can replace a traditional ink signature in virtually any process.
An electronic signature is simply a signature that is a digitised version of your handwritten signature, with or without identity corroboration. A digital signature on the other hand is a type of electronic signature that uses certificate-based IDs to verify a signature’s validity. The signature will also be constructed based on Public Key Cryptography. Digital signatures have proven to be more reliable with stronger security measures and its ability to achieve non-repudiation.
An electronic signature or e-signature carries as much weight as a traditional wet-ink signature signed with pen and paper. Many countries may have already recognised it based on their respective guidelines and regulations such as eIDAS in the European Union, NIST-DSS in the USA or ZertES in Switzerland, and ECA and DSA in Malaysia. Generally speaking, digital signatures are possibly much more secure compared to traditional ink signatures due to the technology advancements in digital signatures. A digitally-signed document may be able to achieve the 4 trust pillars (authenticity, integrity, privacy and non-repudiation) supported with protected audit trails.
Yes, but it is subject to local jurisdiction and law – so long as the e-signatures are legally recognised and protected, they have the same legal weight as traditional ink signatures. As per the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, otherwise known as the “ESIGN Act,” electronic signatures have the same legal standing as traditional signatures.

Below are the available authentications methods on SigningCloud:
SMS Verification
SMS verification works by sending an SMS message containing a one-time code of 6-digits to the user’s registered phone number. The user can then enter the SMS code onto the app or the SigningCloud web portal to confirm that they are the recipient of the SMS message who will then be authorised to place the digital signature.
OTP Verification
During the signing process, the signer may retrieve their unique OTP code from their mobile app. This process removes the possibility of a user or signer registering an account with a fake email address and/or mobile number. The verification code will be shown in the mobile application’s OTP tab at the default dashboard. This unique OTP code will be refreshed and changed every 60 seconds on the app.
Push Verification
Push verification is a mobile-centric verification method whereby the service provider sends the user a notification over the most secured available communication channel. The user responds to the challenge by performing an action to verify their identity in accordance with the user’s supported authentication method on their phone.
An Android user may have to verify through fingerprint verification whereas an iOS user will have to verify through Face ID or Touch ID to proceed.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) works by adding an additional layer of security to users’ online accounts, i.e. What You Know (user name and password) + What You Have (2FA)). It requires an additional login credential — beyond just the username and password — to gain account access and obtaining that second credential requires access to something specific that belongs to the user. This process ensures the identity of the signer is verified before they are granted the right to place a digital signatures.
Yes, all users are required to register with SigningCloud in order to view, receive and sign documents. This is because SigningCloud only supports Public Key Cryptography type of signatures which require signers to perform e-signatures which will be tied to the signer’s verified digital ID or digital certificate. To simplify things for our first-time users, SigningCloud has incorporated a seamless signup process into the signature request; hence, if you’re sending a document for signing to someone who has yet to sign up, the recipient may simply follow a few simple extra steps during the document signing process. This will allow first-time signers to complete their signup process, review the document and sign with ease.
The file types supported on the SigningCloud platform are listed as below:
Unfortunately, to protect the validity of the document, all re-uploaded documents that contain existing signatures will be removed to protect the identity of each signer as well as to ensure that the validity of the CA certs comply with the signatures.
No, you can enjoy unlimited document uploads and e-signing using SigningCloud ID. In the event if you’re required to perform a Qualified Digital Signature (a DSA-compliant signature), additional costs for the use of a trusted CA will be applied.

However, the number of Document Creators (those that create/upload documents for signing) that are allowed is subject to the package you choose. Each company account is only allowed to have one Admin.
